THE SIX WEEK EVENING SESSIONS

The New Actors Workshop

The New Actors Workshop

FALL: SEPTEMBER 23 - OCTOBER 30, 2008

AN INTENSIVE COMBINED APPROACH

George Morrison, Mike Nichols and Paul Sills founded the New Actors Workshop in 1988 to offer a new generation the combination of theatrical forms that had been decisive in forming their own careers. The cross-fertilization of Stanislavski-based scripted scene work with Viola Spolin's Performance Improvisation produces a flexible actor, one who is more autonomous, free of the dogma of a single narrow definition of the acting process. Now, the benefits of our unique curriculum are available in this integrated evening program.

Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm, for 6 weeks, permitting students to work and audition during the day. Teachers are drawn from the top faculty of the Workshop.

CURRICULUM

Acting Technique (3 hours):

Drawn from the carefully designed and tested sequence of exercises developed by George Morrison. Includes the relationship of "inside" to "outside," acting as communication, developing an expanded range of choices for the body, the face and the voice, the full-craft workout, making the work your own, partnering, a creative warm-up, and giving and receiving accurate non-judgmental feedback. This work will be taught using monologues, and the approach is unique to the Workshop.

Improvisation (3 hours):

Creating structured scenes on your feet in front of an audience. This playful, expressive work supports the growth of theatricality, performing courage, and spontaneity. It draws on the contributions of Viola Spolin (theatre games) and Keith Johnstone (TheatreSports).

PLEASE NOTE: Mr. Morrison designs and supervises the program.
